Sebastien Schneiter – Frederique Constant Junior Ambassador – at the Youth Olympic Game in Singapore

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games got off to a dazzling started on Saturday 14th August 2010, with the city’s skyline providing a magnificant backdrop to a rousing opening ceremony dedicated to the more than 3,500 athletes in attendance from all corners of the world.

The 27,000 people at Marina Bay were treated to a two-hour show that showcased Singapore’s rich history and celebrated the cultural diversity of the country’s indigenous people and the young Olympians, aged 14 to 18, who will compete in the Games’ 26 events.

The inaugural competition is designed to be a stepping stone for young athletes striving to compete at the Summer Olympics. And while sport will be the main focus over the next two weeks, there is a simultaneous cultural and educational programme to teach the athletes from the 204 participating countries about Olympic values and global issues.

Sébastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior Ambassador – will enter the competition with the Swiss Team on Tuesday 17h August. The most important now is to wish Sébastien all possible success in the coming weeks. We are looking forward to his good performance on the water. Sébastien – who started sailing in 2004 – had already been 3 times vice-National (Swiss) Optimist Champion (2007, 2008 & 2009). In 2009 at the Dutch Nationals, he took the 2nd place. In 2009 at the International Riva del Garda Optimist Championship (over 600 boats): he took the 5th place.  And in 2010 he won the Laser 4.7 Swiss National and recently finished 6th in the overall European championship and at the second place in the “less than 16 years of age” category!

Sébastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior ambassador – European Championship update

The Laser 4.7 European Championship have started. 240 participants and 29 Nations represented!

After two days of racing and 4 regattas sailed in great conditions Sebastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior Ambassador- is 8 overall and 3rd in the “less than 16 years of age” category. The score is very tight and only few points separate the first 15.

Two more days of sailing (qualifying series) took place before the fleet will be separated into Gold (first 59), silver and bronze fleet according to each individual results. Final series took place on Saturday and Sunday.

Sébastien Schneiter, finished 6th in the overall European championship and at the second place in the “less than 16 years of age” category! Congratulations Sébastien!

Sebastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior ambassador – getting ready for the Youth Olympic Games

After few weeks of intensive training the international regattas have started again. This weekend Sebastien, his coach and few other team members did participate at the “Championnat de mediteranee of laser” in “Fos sur mer” (France).
After 6 regattas sailed Sebastien confirms his good form to finish 2nd overall in the Laser 4.7 category.

The following two months will be very busy sailing wise with trainings both in Geneva and Riva di Garda and with two European championships (Byte and Laser class) as well as the Laser Nationals in “Yverdon”! This will be followed by one week of rest before heading to Singapore with the Swiss Olympic delegation (7th of August) to start practicing prior to the beginning of the Youth Olympic Games regattas towards mid-August.

So far all going according to plan. Next big event will be the Byte CII European Championship which will take place in Riva di Garda towards the end of June.

Sebastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior Ambassador – finished in 1st place!

Last weekend the second series of the Laser 4.7 “Championnat Suisse par point” took place in Thun. After 6 regattas sailed in great conditions Sebastien Schneiter – Frédérique Constant Junior Ambassador –  finished in an excellent 1st place overall.

Also, another great news for the week, the Swiss Sailing Team as well as Swiss Olympics have nominated Mr. Ezequiel Schargorodsky, Sebastien’s coach, the Head Sailing coach for the Youth Olympic Games.

Training sessions continues in both Byte and Laser for Sebastien and the Swiss team. Next big event will be in June with a Laser Europa cup as well as the Byte European championship.

The team spirit is high and fully motivated for all the next events to come!

The Swiss CII sailing team is in the middle of the action at the world championship.

So far so good. Sebastien Schneiter – Frederique Constant Junior Ambassador – is currently qualified for the Youth Olympic Games but still a long way to go. Last regatta he did finish 3rd !

Latest update on the Frederique-Constant Byte Sailing Team

Back to action with a first pre-world regattas this weekend in Cannes. Sebastien has started well with a first and third position on Friday. Racing to continue Saturday and Sunday.

February will be a very busy month on the sailing front for the preparation of the early April world championship and qualification for the Youth Olympic games. Following this weekend race a total of 10 days training are planned in February. The Swiss Team will join the New Zealand and Singapore sailing team for some group training during February.

March will be the same with intensive training before the World championship that will start on the 6th of April.
Meanwhile, the team continue to prepare their physical conditions with 4 sessions/week of physical training.

As you can see the team is busy but the moral and enthousiasm is high. More to follow after this weekend racing.
